Retail Sales Post Steep Decline

In a sign that the resilient U.S. consumer may be weakening, the retail sales numbers in January fell more than expected, down 0.8%, a decline of 0.2% was forecasted. Consumer spending is a huge part of the U.S. economy, but it seemed to be a welcome sign to the markets, for it could influence the next monetary policy moves by the Federal Reserve.
